IMD in Greece
UPDATE: The official announcement by the Hellenic Scientific Society Mikrobiokosmos:
We regret to announce that the International Microorganism Day 2023 event “Microbes meet humans” has to be cancelled. It was scheduled on the 17th of September 2023, the 1st day of the 10th International conference of Mikrobiokosmos which was rescheduled due to the current circumstances in Thessaly. The conference will take place from 30 November to 2 December 2023 (https://afea.eventsair.com/10th-conference-of-mikrobiokosmos/ ).
In the last period we have been closely monitoring the ongoing situation at the area of Thessaly after storm 'Daniel' swept through most of Greece causing heavy rainfalls with catastrophic floods which affected – besides others – the road & rail networks. A few days before the event and conference’s commencement, the connection between the northern part of Greece and Larissa has not been restored, which forced the Organizers of the event to decide its cancellation.
Taking into consideration that many people within local communities are still suffering from the effects of the unprecedented floods that hit Thessaly, Mikrobiokosmos decided to offer an amount supporting the citizens affected by the floods. We stand by them on these difficult times and we hope for quick restoration and recovery of their lives and of their properties.
We deeply and sincerely apologize for any disruptions this may cause and we would be more than grateful for your understanding.
