The Unseen World: From Cuisine to Art and Beyond

Feel Like a Microbiologist: This hands-on experience takes place in a laboratory setting, offering children the opportunity to engage in simple microbiological experiments under supervision. It aims to spark curiosity and introduce young participants to the fascinating world of microbes.

Microbiological Art Exhibition: Students pursuing microbiology degrees showcase their creativity through microbiological art. These artworks illustrate the beauty and complexity of microbial life, providing insights into how microbes inspire artistic expression.

Microbial Cuisine Workshop: This workshop is open to the general public interested in cooking with fermented foods. Participants learn about the science behind fermentation and its health benefits while actively preparing fermented dishes. It's a practical session designed to teach culinary skills and promote the incorporation of beneficial microbes into everyday diets.

Additionally, the event includes a Scientific Café on Intestinal Microbiota and Fermented Food, where experts discuss the importance of gut microbiota in human health. It's an opportunity for attendees to engage in informal discussions and learn about the latest research findings in microbiology.

Objective: To cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the unseen microbial world through interactive educational experiences, creative expressions in art, and practical applications in culinary arts, fostering curiosity, learning, and awareness among participants of all ages and backgrounds. By introducing the concept of holobiontes, the events aim to highlight the symbiotic relationships between humans and their microbial communities, promoting a holistic view of health and life. 


Exploring microorganisms with kids and teens

When: 19 and 25 September 2024, 10:00 am-14:00 pm

Where: III Milenio School (https://colegiotercermilenio.com.ar/)

On September 19, an event will be held for primary and secondary students belonging to the III Milenio school. An initial presentation will be made on the importance of microorganisms in the clinical area, food and environment under the concept of One Health. Then, in small groups, students will go through different workstations divided into the four main groups of microorganisms: viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. In them, they will develop different recreational activities in which they will put into practice what they learned during the initial talk. They will include interactive, artistic, observational activities, among others. The activities will be carried out by teachers and students of the new Microbiology school at the National University of La Plata.

Objective:

To make visible the importance of microorganisms in the educational community and promote the recent creation of the Microbiology school of the National University of La Plata.
