Antimicrobial resistance and new strategies (IHMT, NOVA)

Did you know that antimicrobial resistance is not just about antibiotics and that old drugs can be repurposed to fight resistant bacteria? IHMT-NOVA commemorated the International Microorganism Day in Oeiras, Portugal, targeting students, families and anyone who wanted to find out more about microorganisms! The activity, that gathered the attention of more than 400 visitors, focused on the role of biocides in bacterial resistance to antimicrobials and on the search for effective drugs for the treatment of these infections. Participants were enrolled into interactive activities that allowed them to understand the concepts of antimicrobial resistance and to get familiar with the several steps involved in drug design/repurposing.
