IMD in Mexico
International Microorganism Day travelled to Mexico with an event on 14th September 2022 at the Autonomous University of Campeche. This event was aimed at students and the general public and involved short lectures and an interactive block of practices and exhibitions.
As part of the promotion and dissemination of the fundamental role that microorganisms have in the development and sustainability of society, the Autonomous University of Campeche (UACam), through the Center for Research in Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology (CIMAB), and the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), through the Laboratory of Ecogenomic Studies of the National School of Higher Education (ENES Mérida), encouraged the participation of students to celebrate the "International Day of Microorganisms" through various activities focused on the demonstration of research methodologies in the field of microbiology and the role they play in the development of biotechnologies and biological control.
The outreach activity was held at the "Maria Lavalle Urbina" Plaza, located on Campus I of the Autonomous University of Campeche, on September 14 of this year and was aimed at students of the "Lic. Ermilo Sandoval Campos" High School and the general public. The scientific event began at 9:00 a.m. with a block of lectures given by CIMAB researchers and students of the Master's Degree in Applied Biosciences of the UACam, and ended with an interactive block with practices and exhibitions led by CIMAB researchers and technical teachers.
