Bicocca Sampling Day, 2nd Edition - Open Lab Learn and Play
On 22 September 2023, at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan we celebrated IMD with an environmental microbiome sampling day.
Students after learning about the microbiome, went on a venture to sample surface, soil, and water samples from different outdoor university areas, which they later tested for microbes. In about 3 hours more than 600 environmental microbiome samples were collected!
The atmosphere was informal but educational and allowed students to get directly in touch with real scientific research. We could also spread awareness about delicate themes such as the role of microbiology in urban regeneration and human/environmental health in urban contexts.
All the students’ feedback was positive, they even asked for new editions of the Sampling Day.
