MICROVERSO: la mayoría invisible (Microverse: the unseen majority)
When: 17 September to 20 October 2024
Where: Cuenca (Ecuador) at the Museum of Modern Art (Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno – MMAM)
“MICROVERSO: la mayoría invisible” is an exhibition that will involve an artistic, multisensory, immersive and interactive experience, based on all kinds of installations and assemblies with living beings (microorganisms, mainly bacteria and fungi). The aim of MICROVERSO is inviting us to become aware of the vital importance of microorganisms for our survival –as a species- and that of the whole biosphere, proposing a collective reflection about the future of our planet.
The exhibition, originally inspired by some of the research and experience accumulated by researchers at the Catholic University of Cuenca, will present assemblies and installations containing living microorganisms, based on the projects of prominent researchers from our university, as well as from other Universities in Cuenca, in Ecuador, in Latin America and beyond.
The exhibition will include six spaces of linear route and seven complementary parallel spaces, that will encourage the participation of visitors, stimulate their curiosity, and invite them to explore the amazing world of microorganisms.
Objective:
To raise awareness about the fundamental importance of microorganisms for the survival of all species of living beings, as promoters of the proper functioning of the biosphere, ensuring a viable future for the planet Earth and its inhabitants. In short: to augment the “microbial literacy” of our society.
