ICG Microscape – International Microorganism Day

The International Microorganism Day (IMD) 2024 event, organized by Dalhousie University Institute for Comparative Genomics in collaboration with the Halifax Discovery Centre, will offer a hands-on, family-friendly experience designed to engage the public in the fascinating world of microorganisms. Through a series of interactive stations and activities, participants will explore the crucial roles microorganisms play in various ecosystems and their applications in science and technology. The event will feature a microorganism-themed scavenger hunt and coloring station for children, a live microscopy station showcasing microorganisms in real-time, and an eDNA station demonstrating cutting-edge environmental DNA technology. Experts from the Institute for Comparative Genomics and the Integrated Microbiome Resource will also be on hand to guide visitors through DNA processing and analysis, as well as to explain symbiotic relationships between plants and microorganisms.
