International Microorganism Day in Ukraine 2024

When: 17 September 2024

Where: Kyiv, Ukraine (Online)

Our commitment to continue celebrating International Microorganism Day even in such challenging circumstances is a true example of resilience and commitment to science. Joint efforts with colleagues from other countries can boost morale and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Microorganisms play an important role in many areas of life, and joining the efforts of scientists from different countries helps to continue important research even in difficult conditions. War does create additional challenges, but our community shows that even in times like these, science can unite and find new ways to advance.

Objective: Uniting all colleagues who work with microorganisms to popularize the specialty of microbiology among the population is an important idea. Here are some steps that can help you achieve this goal:

Creation of a professional association: Establishment of an association of microbiologists, which will unite all specialists in this field. This will allow for exchanging experiences and the holding of conferences and seminars.

Promotion through education: Conducting lectures, workshops, and courses for students and schoolchildren to interest them in microbiology.

Popular science events: Organization of open lectures and science festivals, where you can talk about the importance of microbiology and its application in various spheres of life.

Publications and social networks: Maintaining blogs and pages on social networks where news and discoveries in microbiology can be shared in an accessible language.

Collaboration with other fields: Collaborative projects with medicine, agriculture, ecology, and other fields to demonstrate the practical utility of microbiology.

Supporting young scientists: Creating internship programs, grants, and scholarships for young researchers to support them in their scientific endeavors.

These steps will help increase public awareness of microbiology and attract new talent to this important specialty.
